How to Install Mole Netting Under New Turf: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Step 1: Prepare the Soil

Before you think about the netting, your soil base must be ready. Remove any large stones, weeds, and debris. Level the area thoroughly using a rake. The flatter the base, the more effective your mole barrier will be.

Step 2: Unroll the Mole Netting

Lay the mole mesh rolls across the prepared ground. Ensure the netting covers the entire area where the new turf will be placed.

Pro Tip: If you have multiple rolls, make sure they overlap by at least 10–15cm (4-6 inches). This prevents moles from finding a gap between the sheets.

Step 3: Secure with Ground Pegs

Use metal U-pins or ground pegs to fix the netting to the soil. We recommend placing a peg every 1 meter along the edges and at the overlap points. This ensures the netting stays flat and doesn't shift during the turf-laying process.

Step 4: Add a Thin Layer of Topsoil (Optional)

While you can lay turf directly onto the mesh, adding a thin layer (approx. 1-2cm) of fine topsoil over the mole netting helps the turf roots establish faster and more securely through the mesh.

Step 5: Lay Your New Turf

Now, lay your turf rolls as you normally would. The grass roots will grow through the holes of the BOP netting, anchoring the lawn and the mesh together into one solid, mole-proof layer. plastic-mole-net
